Our review

Bondi's Surf Ukuleles are the perfect ukulele for beginners. They combine the quality you expect from Bondi at an affordable price tag which beginners will appreciate.

Bondi Surf Ukuleles are constructed from Mahogany for the top, back and sides. The body is much deeper than most low cost ukuleles. This gives you much better resonance and a richer tone. The fretboard is an exotic wood called Purpleheart, and is beautifully contrasted with the one piece Walnut bridge. These are unheard of on a ukulele at this price!

These ukuleles play really well, which means you won't suddenly grow out of it. Too often with ukuleles around this price you'll find cheap materials and construction. Bondi has solved this issue by using the very same building techniques and quality control they use on their higher end instruments. All with premium tonewoods.

If you're looking for a "beginner" ukulele that plays well, sounds great and will last for years to come; you've found it!

Fantastic little uke

I have two tenors (one of which is the Bondi Spalted Maple and the other a higher-end price range uke, intended to be my really "good" uke) and a concert (my first and an entry-level but with great sound and projection). I wanted to try a soprano just for fun and chose this lower-priced one "for kids" since I wasn't sure how it would sound and whether the fretboard would be too small for my hands. I was pleasantly surprised how good this sounds, and my hands are not too large for the fretboard. I really like that the frets of a soprano are much closer and find it easier to play than my other ukes--when I move up the neck, it's not such a long stretch to get to those higher notes. And the claim about the better resonance due to the deeper body is true. I'm amazed at the volume of sound coming out of this. I've often wondered what the "bright, punchy" sound meant when describing other ukes, and now I know--this is the sound from this uke; my others are more mellow. I'm finding I play this as much or more than my others since it's so much easier and has a happy sound. I got it for the color, novelty, and experience of a soprano at a nominal cost, but I'm really enjoying this uke and don't find anything I don't like about it. And finally, about the setup--it's good! I didn't measure the action as I did with my others, but didn't need to since it plays fine and sounds fine. There's only a very slight roughness to the fret ends, but it's so slight that my hands don't feel it when I play. I can tell you that I can't say that about ukes with a very high price that I've tried in stores--they all had very rough fret ends and the stores would not do anything about it without the customer paying an additional cost. You don't think you can go wrong with Bondi; this is my second uke from them and the quality is great! And your purchase will help a great cause--the children's music program in Cambodia.

Good value

Surprisingly good instrument for the price. It was more expensive than some other kids ukes but all the goodies that come with it more than make up for the price.
