Then head on over to the Monthly Meetup at Kona Snow in Charlotte. This small coffee shop just screams Hawaii and it’s the perfect setting for the group’s monthly jam sessions. They meet up once a month (usually on a Sunday) and sessions start with basics for beginners with more advanced techniques and songs being introduced as they go. Feel like getting out of town? Durham, North Carolina is home to the Durham Ukulele Group. They meet twice a month and there is a session for beginners followed by an hour long advanced/intermediate strum. You can do both if you like, and all are welcome to join. Want to spend the summer sharpening your uke skills? Why not do it next to some rolling waves? If this tickles your fancy then check out the North Carolina Ukulele Academy in Wilmington, NC. Take your pick from Youth classes, Adult classes, “Little Strummers”, Speciality classes or Workshops. Youth classes cover everything from strumming and chords to history and cultural highlights of the ukulele. For the older guard there are several introduction classes and for the more adventurous out there, you can try out a Speciality class which ranges from the Johnny Cash and Classic Country class (where you can play along to the Man in Black) to the Spring Sampler, a fun mix of songs and techniques to spice up your repertoire and knock the next Christmas party out of the park.
