The OKLAHOMA CITY Ukulele Scene
Famous Musicians From Here
The Great Plains of the USA. You’d be hard pressed to find a more vast, majestic landscape anywhere around the world. The rolling fields and buffalo that inhabit these lands make for an idyllic setting for anyone who enjoys the mysteries of nature. A big part of this area is situated in the state of Oklahoma and nestled right in the middle is the ever-growing Oklahoma City. Famous for their large livestock markets and water-taxis in the Bricktown neighbourhood, this city has seen its share of hardships as well but has risen above it in true American fashion.
How about them Ukes, you may ask? Well you’re in luck. The OKC Ukulele Group meets once a month in what they describe as a “Uke Group Extravaganza”. Melicent King is your host at this event and by the looks of things these folks eat, sleep and breathe all things ukulele. Sound like your kind of jam? You can reach the OKC Group on their Facebook page which is listed below.
The American Banjo Museum in Oklahoma City hosts annual ukulele open jam sessions and as luck would have it, the session for this year is still coming up. All that is required from you is your Bondi Uke and loads of inspiration. All levels are welcome from beginner to expert. For more information on this event you can get in touch with the museum directly on their website which is listed below.

If you’re in the mood to broaden your uke skills and have fun at the same time, check out the Ukulele Workshop hosted by Mr Jeff Howard at the Oklahoma City Traditional Music Association in Oklahoma City. This workshop focuses on learning to play well in groups (isn’t that what we all want) and all levels of skill are welcome. Bring loads of energy and suggestions as Mr Howard claims that they can play and teach any song you can think of. Quite the ambitious one there! You can get in touch with him on the weblink listed below.
Feel like taking your Bondi Uke out on the road? A two-hour drive east to Tulsa will put you in the vicinity of the Tulsa Ukulele Club. Run by Ralph Kelley and Rex Powell, this group gathers for regular jam sessions and public performances. They also host monthly in-house open mic nights where you can strum along in duets or showcase your solo talents to an accepting audience. They welcome all skill levels to join in and grow their uke abilities. Get in touch with Ralph or Rex on the website listed below.
Oklahoma City, or the OKC, has a lot more going for it than the extensive plains that surround it. If you want to be a part of the music revolution of the great state of Oklahoma, strap in your Bondi Uke and venture out into the fastest growing city in the Midwest, where all your uke dreams could come true.
Climate note for your ukulele: Oklahoma City swings between humid spring storms and bone-dry winters. Tornado-season humidity in May-June, then sub-20% RH inside heated houses by January. That's the swing that splits solid tops. Keep the uke in a hard case with a D'Addario Humidipak two-way packet. Don't leave it in a parked truck in July; OKC summer heat builds fast.

Frequently Asked About Ukulele Oklahoma City
Where can I buy a ukulele in Oklahoma City?
Bondi ships to OKC in 1-3 days with a free songbook bundle. Local options are Larsen Music, Driver's Music on N MacArthur, and the Guitar Center on NW Expressway. Most stock entry-level brands; for a concert mahogany set up out of the box with a hard case, Bondi is the most direct route.
Are there ukulele lessons in Oklahoma City?
OKC Ukulele Group runs a monthly Extravaganza hosted by Melicent King, beginner-friendly. The Oklahoma City Traditional Music Association runs a ukulele workshop with Jeff Howard focused on group play. Driver's Music does private lessons too.
When does the Oklahoma City ukulele meetup happen?
OKC Ukulele Group meets monthly. Schedule posts on their Facebook group. The Jeff Howard workshop at OCTMA welcomes all skill levels. Drop in with a uke; that's the entry fee.
What's the best ukulele for a beginner in Oklahoma City?
A concert-size mahogany. Soprano is smaller and cheaper, but cramped for adult fingers; concert gives more fret space and a fuller tone. Bondi's concert mahogany ships set up and tuned, with a hard case, gig bag, and songbook. The hard case is real protection through the OK humidity swings.
Is there a ukulele festival in Oklahoma City?
Yes, sort of. The Arcadia Round Barn Ukulele Festival is about 30 minutes northeast, on Route 66. Free admission, donations accepted. Stillwater, Tulsa, and OKC ukulele clubs all play. Goes back to 2018, runs every September.
How long does Bondi shipping take to Oklahoma City?
1-3 business days from our US warehouse via tracked express courier. Free shipping on orders over $50.
Can I find used ukuleles in Oklahoma City?
Reverb, Craigslist OKC, and the used wall at Guitar Center on NW Expressway turn over ukes. OK humidity swings are rough on used solid tops, so inspect the soundhole edge and bridge for hairline cracks before paying. New from Bondi includes setup, hard case, and warranty.
What music has Oklahoma City produced?
The Flaming Lips formed here in 1983. Vince Gill was born in Norman. Reba, Garth Brooks (Yukon), Toby Keith (Moore), Carrie Underwood (Muskogee), all from the OKC orbit. Country runs deep here. The uke fits the singer-songwriter and country / Americana side of that more than psychedelic rock, but the Blue Door has hosted both.
