THE BALTIMORE UKULELE SCENE
Ukuleles – Baltimore, Maryland
It doesn’t get much more American (in every aspect of the word) than in the city of Baltimore, Maryland. If you’re looking for a true slice of Americana the history of this city is the absolute ultimate, with natives and previous residents like Edgar Allen Poe, singer Billie Holiday, actor and filmmaker John Waters and the legendary Babe Ruth. And if that’s not enough for you, the Star-Spangled Banner was composed by Francis Scott Key in Baltimore in the war of 1812. Almost a third of the city’s buildings have been classified as historical landmarks, so in the streets of Baltimore you are fully aware that you’re in the presence of greatness.
How does the ukulele measure up to all of this? Very well, actually. The Baltimore Ukulele Club gathers monthly and included in their schedule are beginner and intermediate as well as ukulele jam sessions. To keep things interesting, they regularly change group leaders and locations for their members to be able to explore different parts of the city. They also post events and host ukulele players from all areas of the US do broaden their horizons. Get in touch with this amazing group through their Facebook page which is listed below.
