So, if you feel like bringing a little bit of Aloha to Boston, your options really are quite endless. From strumming groups to private tutors, the ukulele is making its voice heard all along the east coast of America. Will you be a part of the phenomenon?
Climate note for your ukulele: Boston winters are brutal on solid-top ukes. Single-digit nights, snow from December through March, and forced-air heat that drops indoor humidity below 25%. That winter dryness is what cracks tops. Hard case plus a Humidipak from October to May. Don't leave the uke in a parked car in February or in a sun-baked apartment in July.

Frequently Asked About Ukulele Boston
Where can I buy a ukulele in Boston?
Bondi ships to Boston in 1-3 days with a free songbook bundle. Music Emporium in Lexington is the area's strongest acoustic shop and does setup. Mr Music in Allston has a basic uke wall. Brookline Music School handles rentals. Guitar Center on Comm Ave for the chain option. For a concert mahogany set up out of the box, Bondi is the most direct.
Are there ukulele lessons in Boston?
Strummerville runs three free weekly meetups: 1st Monday in Melrose, 2nd Tuesday in Brookline, 4th Wednesday at the Armory Cafe in Somerville. All levels, loaner ukes available. Brookline Music School and Music Emporium offer private lessons. The weekly Strummerville cadence beats most paid lessons for new players.
When does the Boston ukulele meetup happen?
Strummerville Ukulele Club: 1st Monday at Follow Your Art Studios (Melrose), 2nd Tuesday at Brookline Village Public Library (Brookline), 4th Wednesday at Rooted Cafe at Arts at the Armory (Somerville). Doors 6pm, music 7-9pm at the Armory. Ukulele Union of Boston runs the Meetup page.
What's the best ukulele for a beginner in Boston?
A concert-size mahogany. Soprano is smaller and brighter but cramped for adult fingers. Concert gives more fret space and a fuller tone. Bondi's concert mahogany ships set up and tuned with hard case, gig bag, and songbook. The hard case earns its keep through New England winters; indoor humidity in Boston apartments drops below 25% from January to March.
Is there a ukulele festival in Boston?
Not a dedicated city ukulele festival. Boston Calling in May and Beantown Jazz in September are the bigger music weekends. The Belfast Bay Ukulele Festival in Maine and the Berkshire Ukulele Workshop in Sheffield (both 3-4 hours away) are the closest dedicated uke fests.
How long does Bondi shipping take to Boston?
1-3 business days from our US warehouse via tracked express courier. Free shipping on orders over $50.
Can I find used ukuleles in Boston?
Music Emporium in Lexington has the strongest used acoustic wall in the area. Reverb is active. Used solid-tops that survived a few Boston winters often have hairline cracks at the bridge if they were stored badly. Bondi includes setup, hard case, and a warranty on every new uke.
What music has Boston produced?
Rock (Aerosmith, Boston, The Cars, Pixies), R&B and disco (Donna Summer, New Edition), Celtic punk (Dropkick Murphys), and singer-songwriter (James Taylor). Berklee College of Music keeps the talent pipeline running. The uke fits the folk and singer-songwriter side of that lineage.
